Vanessa Hudgens is taking a break from musicals for a while.
The 20-year-old actress dished to MTV on the set of her new flick, Beastly, that musicals and music aren’t in her immediate future.
She shared, “I love musicals, I really do. I grew up doing them, so it’ll always have a place in my heart … at the same time, it’s nice to be able to separate the two and just be able to focus on films. It’s a lot of fun playing different characters and taking on new journeys.”
Vanessa continued, “Honestly, I’m kind of taking a break from music right now. I’m just focusing on films and acting. I feel like when I’m doing something I really want, [I] focus on that and try to not spread myself all over the place.”
Miss Hudgens is currently filming Beastly in Montreal, Quebec.

Vanessa Hudgens has fun on the cover of the August 2009 issue of Sugar magazine.
The 20-year-old actress dished with the mag that she couldn’t stop crying on the last day of High School Musical. She shared, “The last day of HSM was horrible. I couldn’t stop crying. Having to say goodbye to my close friends was so painful.”
But Vanessa would love to work with on-and-off screen boyfriend Zac Efron again. She shared, “Not right now but sometime in the future it would be nice to work together again.”

Alex Pettyfer keeps his arm wrapped around on-screen love interest Vanessa Hudgens on the set of their upcoming flick, Beastly, in Montreal, Quebec on Sunday afternoon (June 21).
Beastly follows a popular kid with a mean streak who ditches a date. His date, Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen), turns out to be a witch who curses him to become everything he hates. The grotesque transformation leaves him with the seemingly impossible task of finding true love to break the ugly spell.
Well this isn’t exactly a High School Musical or Full House… Vanessa Hudgens and Mary Kate Olsen look like you’ve never seen them before on the set of Beastly - a modern-day take on the Beauty and the Beast tale which follows a hot but egotistical New York teen who is transformed into a hideous monster so that his outer appearance resembles his inner nastiness.
I’m guessing Vanessa and Mary Kate aren’t beasties in the film, but you’ve got to admit that they don’t exactly look like beauties either…
Vanessa Hudgens loves getting dressed up.
The ‘High School Musical’ actress likes to experiment with fashion and wouldn’t be happy wearing the same outfit day after day.
Vanessa - who works with Hollywood stylist Deborah Waknin - said: “I’ve used her forever and I’m in love with her! She completely gets me, which is really hard, I think. I’m not very typical; I like my own thing. I’m not content with wearing a T-shirt and jeans every day. I love fashion and I love playing with it.”

Vanessa - who is dating her ‘High School Musical’ co-star Zac Efron - describes her style as alternating between “bohemian chic” and “rocker chic”.
She added to Britain’s InStyle magazine: “They all end in chic! When I’m feeling sweet, I’ll throw on the floral clothes. Every now and then, long skirts. Other days, I’ll go for dark colours. I am no label whore and for the most part, I dress myself.”
